Devotional: Working Together

Well, the pumpkins are almost here! They will be arriving on Sunday October 17, and we would love to have you help us unload the truck! Last year was my first year to participate in this ministry, and the whole experience was so much fun! It brought this congregation together in several different ways.

For some, it was pitching in to help as we moved what seemed like an endless line of pumpkins from inside the truck out to our front lawn. For others, it was the daily rolling of the pumpkins so they would not spoil. For some, it was sitting with the pumpkins waiting on a buyer.

For me, it was something else. I watched this congregation come together and share. We shared in the work together. We shared our front lawn together. We shared our faith together.

Not only will we be sharing our faith this year, but we will be sharing our pumpkins as well. The new Texarkana Parish, Williams Memorial, First United, and St. Luke’s, is enabling us to share our ministry! This year, St. Luke’s will be placing some of the pumpkins on their lawn. This new parish is enabling us to work together to do good, and to share what we have with each other.

I pray that with our pumpkin patch this year that we will continue to work together to draw people onto our church properties. That we would continue to sacrifice our time and our money. That we would use our pumpkin patch to draw people to Jesus Christ. In Hebrews 13:16 we read “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Amen!
