Dancing With God

They should praise him with dancing. They should sing praises to him with tambourines and harps.” (Psalms 149:3) What do...

They should praise him with dancing. They should sing praises to him with tambourines and harps.” (Psalms 149:3)

What do you think of when the word worship comes up? Worship means telling God what you think of him. It’s also by thanking and praising Jesus for what he has done for us. There are many different types of worshiping. The type of worship most people think about is by singing or an instrumental, but the one I like is Liturgical dancing. Liturgical dancing is an expression of prayer and worship through body movements.

I started dancing when I was very little and have been ever since, but when I started liturgicals about six years ago it brought a new concept to my daily worship lifestyle. Dancing was always something to do if I wanted to express myself to others without actually talking.  Liturgicals is not like any other type of dancing. Every song we dance to brings out a new message to the audience. We aren’t dancing to show off; we are dancing to glorify the Lord through our actions.

Liturgicals have been a big part of my worshiping throughout the years. It has been something I could go do and actually feel like that was what God was calling me to do. The dances we have come up with have felt more of God lifting me up than me actually going through the motions.  Whenever we are dancing I feel like it’s just me and God in the room.

I really like this statement that I heard a couple of years ago, “We dance for him because he died for us.” That is really true in my life because every dance I have ever done with liturgicals was with the Strength of Jesus. We always pray that God will always guide us into the right direction with the message God is trying to show the viewers from us. It is a learning experience for us too. I was once told that you don’t need to do something just for the spot light but you need to do it because that’s what you love to do. Liturgicals have always been a big part of my life and always will be.

Worshiping shouldn’t feel like an obligation. It should be something that you absolutely love to do. There are many types that you should try before you find the right one that fits you. Try to worship for the right reasons and not the ones when you aren’t glorifying the Lord.
