Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:1-2 NRSV)

The number one issue in the state of Texas is water. I heard that statement 25 years ago. Today the statement is even more obvious and by the middle of this century everyone will say, “Water is the issue.”

The scriptures use water to emphasize God’s blessings. A large majority of Biblical authors grew up in a desert environment. They knew what dry and thirsty meant. They knew the importance of water to sustain community living. Heaven is the ultimate community of faith. Water flows from God’s presence through the middle of the street of the city. It brings life and healing.

When you go to the beach and exposed to the sun, wind, and ocean you can become dangerously dehydrated and experience heat stroke in less than an hour if you do not drink water. Under protected conditions an average person might survive three to five days without water, but not longer. Water is essential to our lives.

The growth of a city is limited by the amount of water available for the citizens and industry. Heaven provides an unlimited supply for all the nations. No one is left out. The water of life is God’s grace for all of creation. Are you thirsty? Drink the water of life. See you in worship.
