Remembering 9-11

I don’t know if you remember where you were ten years ago on 9/11. I was getting ready for work at FUMC Jasper, TX. Good Morning America was on, and I was putting on my makeup. I heard Charlie Gibson say “Oh My God.” Nothing else followed, so I stepped to the television and saw the second plane hit. I knew that our country was under attack and I was afraid. I began to ask God for help. I have always trusted scripture, so I quoted “My help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 124:8 I was praying for my country. I know that God loves all countries, and I pray for them, but at that moment, I was praying for my country.

As we approach this tenth anniversary of 9/11 our church has chosen to have special services of remembrance and hope. All our services will have scouts that present the colors. All third graders will receive Bibles. These young people are the hope of our nation. They hold our future. We hold today. The sanctuary services will present “Te Deum” by Mark Hayes. It is a work that we have done once before, and it is powerful in its message. There are 15 instrumentalists and all our choir members. It will be an appropriate preparation for the sermon. Hope is the theme for the day. Our hope is in God. Our choice is to acknowledge Him. The most powerful phrase in the work is “I trust in Thee.”

We offer this work at both 8:15 and 10:30 because you have asked us to share our music with your friends who are in other churches. The early service does not usually conflict with other church services. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family to share our worship.

Please join us for worship and a time of remembrance and hope.
