Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31 NRSV)
Jesus teaches us in this golden rule to treat others the way we want to be treated. If followed, this basic rule would transform life around this planet.
Try this driving challenge: when changing lanes turn on your blinker long before you want to change lanes. How many people will let you in front of them?
The primary safest way to change lanes on Richmond in front of Starbucks is act like you do not want to change lanes. At the last moment turn on your blinker and move into the space between the two cars next to you.
It seems the rule for driving and much of life is, Keep others from doing to you what you try to do to them. Imagine how driving would change if everyone followed the golden rule.
The golden rule is good, but Jesus surpassed it when he gave a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you. Jesus laid down a new principle for Christian community. His love for us transcends every other rule for living.
Be a part of the community centered on the life of Jesus Christ. See you in worship this Sunday.
