Pakistan Flood Relief

Many of you know about the floods that have hit Pakistan in the past weeks. These floods have killed over 1400, and displaced thousands from their homes. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is coordinating with other relief agencies in the are to help those who are left without homes, crops, food, or a way to earn income.

According to the UMCOR Website At least 8 million Pakistanis are in dire need of emergency assistance—food, clean water, and shelter; more than 20 million have been affected. The United Nations says the disaster’s toll is comparable to the combined toll of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2004 Indonesia tsunami, and 2005 Kashmir earthquake.

Your help is urgently needed and you can do so in two ways. You may write a check and bring it to the church. Please make sure and put Pakistan Floods on the memo line of your check. Second you may donate directly by using the Disaster Response, International online donation form

Help Make a Big Difference in a Short Time

We need our Williams family to step up in a big way, in a short time.

Our church as been asked to be responsible for providing school supplies for at least 40 children, of Theron Jones Elementary.

You can help in three different ways:

1. Bring school supplies to the church between now and Sunday August 15th, and drop them in the “Stuff the Bus” boxes in the Welcome Center.

2. Write a check, payable to Williams Memorial UMC, that we can use to purchase needed supplies for these children. Put “School Supplies”in the memo line

3. Help us spread the word. Forward this email, send it to your facebook friends, and make some phone calls. Because we have basically 5 days, we are relying on the internet, social media and word of mouth!

We have a short time to do a great thing, but our Williams family can come together to make a huge difference in the lives of these students and in the community.

Volunteers Needed for Stuff The Bus This Saturday

We still need volunteers to help out with Stuff the Bus this weekend! Williams Memorial is responsible for collecting money & school supplies at Super 1 Foods from 10 am – 4 pm this Saturday, August 7. We have some volunteers but are still looking for workers for the 2 – 4 pm slot. If you would be willing to help out please contact the office at (903) 832-8663.

Also, if you would like to make a donation and cannot make it to Super 1 this week we have 2 Stuff the Bus collection boxes in the Williams Memorial Welcome Center where you can drop off school supplies. We will pick up these boxes on Monday, August 9.

“Purses for a Purpose” Tickets Still Available

You can still purchase tickets at the door for the “Purses for a Purpose” fundraiser for Stacey Pool’s one year mission trip to Africa.

The event, Purses for a Purpose Silent Auction, will be Today, Thursday July 29th, in the Williams Memorial Youth Center from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with over 200 purses on display!

Tickets are $25 at door. Starbucks will be serving complimentary drinks and desserts. Childcare is provided.
