Christmas celebrates God becoming human. Baby Jesus is born, and we receive God’s gift to us.

A new child in the family brings another depth of relationship. Parents, grand-parents, and the greats all rejoice in the new life. Familiar rituals take new meaning and hope for the future. Watching a small child who is seeing Christmas for the first time renews the meaning of Christmas for us.

God sent Jesus into this world in order to make everything new. The old flat earth needed a revival of purpose and understanding. Humanity thought we had God all figured out, and we had the rules to prove it. God burst into the scene with new possibilities, shaking our preconceived foundations. The tremor of the new and possible shook us out of our complacency.

We need the same revival today. Jesus does not need to be born again, but we need to see with new eyes and hearts so we can be born anew. Find a child or simply follow the child God has given your family and see Christmas through their eyes. See the wonder and glory of the new. May our hearts not be filled with stuff, but may they be filled with joy, glory, and peace. Gather at the manger and wonder at God’s gifts. See you in worship.
