Worship is the work of the people. It is a corporate and individual time to tell God we love Him, praise Him and rely on Him. The worship leaders just organize the time together to be able to join in this time called worship. We each are called by God to worship. It is our obligation to offer praise, thanksgiving and intercession.

We are to participate in the sacraments. That means that we take communion when it is offered, and we all participate in baptism by being present and pledging to live by example so that the newly baptized are able to learn from us how to live.

God’s instructions are for us to “not be lukewarm.” The word we use as the opposite to lukewarm is passionate. If we are fully, passionately involved during worship, God is honored.

That means that we praise joyfully, pray earnestly and intercede for those who need our prayers with our full heart. We give back to God what God has given us.

Each of the worship teams that are in leadership give what they can to be positive and passionate in worship. Choirs, ensembles, dancers, ringers, readers each offer the best they have to give during worship. That is not for us to worship instead of the congregation, but to lead every person in giving the best they have.

Remember the instructions that John Wesley put into the front of the UM Hymnal. Some of those instructions are: Sing all. See that you join with the congregation as frequently as you can; Let not a slight degree of weakness or weariness hinder you; Sing lustily and with a good courage; Above all sing spiritually; Have an eye to God in every word you sing; Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature.

If you have a talent that God has given you, we will do our best to include you in worship leadership. There are many opportunities. Let Russell or I know. We will be happy to help.
