Collections for Firefighters

Starting immediately we will be taking collections of items to help our volunteer fire fighters, fighting the nearby forest fires. Collection bins will be set up in the Welcome Center and outside of Wesley Hall. We will collect all items and take them to the stations.

There are three main types of items we are collecting.

1. Hydrating Fluids – Gatorade, Powerade, Bottled Water, Gatorade powder packets etc…

2. Salty Snacks – Beef Jerky, Peanuts… things that can be eaten quickly for a boost of energy.

3. Money for Fuel

Checks can be made out to Williams Memorial UMC with ”Fire Fighter Relief” in the comment.

Pakistan Flood Relief

Many of you know about the floods that have hit Pakistan in the past weeks. These floods have killed over 1400, and displaced thousands from their homes. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is coordinating with other relief agencies in the are to help those who are left without homes, crops, food, or a way to earn income.

According to the UMCOR Website At least 8 million Pakistanis are in dire need of emergency assistance—food, clean water, and shelter; more than 20 million have been affected. The United Nations says the disaster’s toll is comparable to the combined toll of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2004 Indonesia tsunami, and 2005 Kashmir earthquake.

Your help is urgently needed and you can do so in two ways. You may write a check and bring it to the church. Please make sure and put Pakistan Floods on the memo line of your check. Second you may donate directly by using the Disaster Response, International online donation form

How You Can Help in Haiti

“A major earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti yesterday, causing widespread destruction. Millions of people are affected and thousands are feared dead. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has close ties with the Methodist Church in Haiti and is responding to the devastating earthquake with funding, material resources and prayers.”- from UMCOR Responds to Earthquake in Haiti

United Methodist Communications is working to provide timely and relevant information about how The United Methodist Church is responding to the tragic earthquake in Haiti and how United Methodists can support these efforts. United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti.

The United Methodist News Service posted an initial story soon following the tragedy and will have ongoing coverage about United Methodist mission teams that are in Haiti, response efforts by the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and what local churches are doing to provide aid.
