Get ready for the JYF Pancake Supper on February 19th, at 5:00 p.m. Each year, the 5th and 6th graders (Junior Youth Fellowship) host a dinner or lunch to raise money for various mission projects. Suggested donations for the Pancake supper are $5.00 and tickets will be sold during Sunday morning in the welcome center and at the door. Tickets are being sold for $20 at the Good Treasures Bookstore through Sunday February 12th. Tickets will also be sold for $25 at the door.

All proceeds will benefit the students of Williams College and Young Adults. The money raised will go toward a scholarship fund for students to attend mission trips and retreats.

I recently purchased a daily devotional Grace for the Moment Daily Bible, NCV: Spend 365 Days Reading the Bible with Max Lucado by Max Lucado. Today, the day I’m writing this article, the devotion by Max centered around the theme of “A Godly Touch.” In this text, Jesus is coming down the Mountain after preaching His Sermon on the Mount, and He encounters this man who is sick. The man has such faith in Jesus, that he tells Him if you would choose for me to be healed, then it would happen. Then he receives a healing from Jesus through “A Godly Touch.”

Can’t we do the same thing? We can choose to use our words carefully, and bring comfort to those who need to hear a kind word or maybe an encouraging word. We can choose to lay our hands on those who are sick, and pray over them. We can sit and listen to that person who is grieving, and give them comfort. We can sit with someone at “Community Cafe,” share a common meal, and make someone feel loved and appreciated.

Sometimes, even though our hearts are in the right place, we forget. We forget how powerful our words and actions can be, and we deny our discipleship. We forget how much we appreciated love, mercy, and grace when we were feeling down and out. I am so thankful that when we are in need of “A Godly Touch,” that Jesus never forgets.

A Word from Our Sponsor

God forgives our sins for God’s own sake? Jesus tells us to forgive sins so we can be forgiven and if we do not forgive we will not be forgiven. Does this apply to God as well? No.

God has no sin to be forgiven. But this scripture tells us God forgives our sin because it benefits God. How?

We do not fully understand, but one obvious benefit is the possibility of relationship. If God did not forgive, then God would have no relationships beyond the Trinity. All humanity has sinned. God would not be able to relate to us anymore. God wants us more than anything. This is the mystery of Love.

Charles Wesley wrote a hymn entitled And Can It Be. This is one small phrase from that great hymn: Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

God loves us. Love benefits God’s own sake. If you can not attend worship for your sake, then attend worship for God’s sake.
